• The decision about which kind of hysterectomy to have is an important one. There are several alternative choices to make including a minimally invasive procedure.
Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy is an innovative surgical option that uses laparoscopy alone to remove the uterus, but leaves the cervix intact.
• This less invasive procedure has many advantages. It is designed to reduce pain, minimize scarring, and shorten recovery time (6 days, on average). Often this surgery can be done as an outpatient surgery.

Laparoscopic Suprcervical Hysterectomy preserves the cercix, which may help to reduce the risk of pelvic floor prolapse and other complication associated with total hysterectomies. Because the cervix is left in place, however, annual pap smear is recommended for cervical cancer.
