| The ThermaChoice Ballon-An evolution in design |
| The Gynecare ThermaChoice Uterine Balloon Therapy was the first nonresectoscopic endometrial ablation device for heavy menstrual bleeding approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1997. Using a handheld catheter, the physician advances a single-use sillicone balloon and then inflates it with 5% dextrose and water to a pressure of 180 mm HG. Heated by a central element, the hot fluid circulates throughout the endometrial cavity, causing ablation of the adjacent endometrium. ThermaChoice III features a double-dip contruction that is both strong and flexible. As a result, it conforms better to the contours of the endometrial cavity. This provides better cornual and lower uterine segment coverage, reflected in improved rates of amenorrhea. |
